This was delivered promptly, including a bottle of oil which you need to put in as they can't be shipped with the oil already in (don't forget!). Assembly was simple and only took a few minutes. Three pumps on the primer and a couple of pulls on the starter cord and it started up. It did stall quite quickly the first couple of times, then settled down as it warmed up. Once warm it starts easily with no priming, and runs reliably.

Set the wheel height to suit the depth of the leaves you're clearing, and it will cope with anything from an odd leaf here and there to an ankle deep solid covering (which I have had to deal with). Suction is very good, even out to the ends of the intake which is wider than the wheels so you can still clear leaves right into corners and along fences. If you do have very deep piles of leaves then set it as high as possible and give it time to clear each bit before moving on, as it is possible to overload it and get a jam, but that only happened once and that was on my first use while I was finding out how it worked and the leaves were very deep. Since then it's never jammed again.

It does take some physical effort to push, particularly if you have any uneven ground or potholes, but that's to be expected as it's a fair size and does have quite a powerful engine so it has some weight to it. The blade is well protected underneath so no danger of striking anything with it as you roll over uneven ground, unless it sucks up something solid like bits of branch or tin cans which it is powerful enough to do.

The bag is as big as you need it to be, so you can do quite a bit of heavy leaf clearing before it needs emptying. The leaves aren't totally shredded, but they are packed in well and suction doesn't start to drop off until the bag is about 3/4 full, by which point it's heavy enough that the body will tend to tip over backwards and be awkward to push, so that's the time to empty it.

It comes off very easily apart from the tube that the leaves enter through at the front, which has a plastic band that's screwed together to hold it in place. It's a long screw and needs a powered screwdriver unless you want to be there for a while. I no longer use that, instead I secure the bag onto the feed tube with a bungee stretch cord that has a quick release buckle, making it really quick to undo to release the bag, then fasten up again afterwards. The bag has a zip that opens up a very large section of the back, making emptying it relatively easy, though well packed leaves may need some shaking to get them out. There is also a small zip on the side of the bag which needs to be open when using the machine, as it lets some air flow out and stops back-pressure building up and slowing down leaf collection.

The engine is fairly noisy so maybe not something you'd want to use early on a Sunday morning unless you have no neighbours, but it's no worse than other petrol-driven garden equipment. Overall I'm very happy with this machine, as It has saved me hours of back-breaking work raking and collecting leaves, both on the garden and on the paths/patio. Team it up with a leaf-blower to get the leaves out of really awkward corners and into an open area where this can get at them more easily, and you're well sorted.
